Internet Connectivity Troubleshooting
If your internet isn’t working, we always recommend contacting your internet service provider (ISP) first and checking online for any reported outages.
PC Link can troubleshoot internal cabling, replace wall sockets if needed, check for open circuits, and fix tap bridges. If your ISP has identified any of these issues, we can assist you.
Dealing with an ISP can be frustrating. When necessary, our technicians can test all internal wiring and assist by reporting any network outages or external faults back to your ISP, so the NBN can address issues on the network side.
A fixed fee of $350 plus GST and excludes wall sockets if needs to be replaced.
Bridge Tap Removal
If you have an NBN service, and there is a suspected fault, you might be advised that the service has been tested by NBN and the result is that NBN has detected a ‘bridge tap’.
A ‘bridge tap’ is the name of a type of fault that is returned when NBN’s equipment senses (via very sensitive and complex electrical measurement techniques) that there is an irregularity, abnormality or inconsistency on the physical cabling or wiring inside of your home.
The reason for the diagnosis can be pretty varied, but the most common cause is the phone sockets inside the house have been wired in a ‘star’ topology. In this configuration, all phone sockets are connected back to a single central location. While this configuration works well for traditional voice services, the electrical characteristics of such a wiring configuration can cause problems with newer technologies like FTTN (which rely on sending very high frequency, high bandwidth signals down sometimes very old copper!).
The result for services where a bridge tap is detected can be varied, and can include dropouts or poor performance, or other undesirable behaviour.
A fixed fee of $350 plus GST and excludes wall sockets if needs to be replaced.
NBN tagging for an apartement
NBN typically connects the internet to the basement of your apartment block. From there, it’s the tenant’s or landlord’s responsibility to trace the wall socket from the apartment to the MDF room, usually located in the basement, where the NBN connection enters from the street.
We can assist by tracing the cable from your apartment to the MDF room and linking it to the NBN network, ensuring your internet connection reaches your apartment.
Please ensure we have access to the MDF room before our visit, and obtain the C Pair details from your internet service provider.
The cost for this service generally ranges from $250 to $350.
Cabling Fault finding
We offer a fault finding and repair service for existing cabling installations. We also offer a service to cleanup existing cabling installations including server racks/rooms.
Our IT experience sets us apart from other electrical contractors and cabling firms because we understand how IP networks function.
We can investigate whether a fault is with your cabling, device or the configuration. Sometimes we can be the bridge between yourself and your IT company. Our rates are $250 for the first houe and $150 per hour therafter (billed in 30 minutes increments).
If a second tech is required, a discounted rate will apply depending on the job requirement.
